What is Amended Senior Certificate?

It’s never too late to get your matric

Bristol Training College is proud to announce that  we now offer the Amended Senior Certificate programme. The Amended Senior Certificate is a equivalent to the National Senior Certificate (NSC) also known as matric. Amended Senior Certificate (As Amended Matric) Programme  allowed adults  with incomplete Senior Certificate or those who did not complete their high school education, or failed their Matric examination, to obtain their school leaving certificate (Matric) and thus further their education.

Almost two-thirds of South African adults have not completed or passed their Grade 12. This means that many of our young adults will struggle to get a job or might not even get a job at all.

To minimise the number of unemployed adults in South Africa, the Department of Education introduced the Amended Senior Certificate programme. The ASC programme is specifically aimed at adults and out-of-school learners that want to obtain their matric equivalent.

The Amended Senior Certificate is recognised by employers and various tertiary education institutions, which means not only can students qualify for entry-level jobs, but they can also further their education and take control of their future.

Admission to the amended Senior Certificate

The following learners will qualify for admission to the amended Senior Certificate:

  1. Adult learners who are 21 years and older who have:
    1. a General Education and Training Certificate (GETC): or
    2. a Grade 9 school report (or the old standard seven), stating that they have passed Grade 9 or Standard 7; or
    3. a recognized equivalent qualification obtained at NQF Level 1 which requires two official languages.
  2. Adult learners who are 21 years and older with an incomplete Senior Certificate qualification.
  3. Adult learners who are 21 years and older with an incomplete National Senior Certificate and whose School-Based Assessment (SBA) validity has expired.
  4. Only in exceptional cases, out of school youth, who are 18-21 years old and who could not complete their school education due to circumstances beyond their control, as verified by the Head of Department in the Provincial Education Department.
